Primary Secondary and A level maths tuition.

About us- We are a pair of Students that are passionate about maths. We are 18 and 19 years old respectively and believe in the advantages of peer tutoring. In our year and a half of teaching experience, we have realised that students find it easier to relate to us because of our ages. We have very individual teaching approaches and have had very positive results. We provide all learner resources and tailor our lessons to the national curriculum. Students receive reports termly, are assessed monthly and set assignments weekly.
We believe in engaging our students and encouraging an individual approach to learning where a learner develops responsibility for their own learning.
Despite the fact that we are both very young, we are also very motivated and both high achievers.

Profile 1: MELISSA ABRAHAM

I am a student currently in the second year of my A levels. In my first year I achieved 4 A grades and a B grade including Mathematics and Further Mathematics. Having completed my A level in Maths a year early I am still studying Further Mathematics and also taking Further mathematics (Additional) and I have applied to study mathematics at university (2008 entry). I am madly passionate about mathematics and I want to share the enjoyment I find in mathematics with young people of all ages. I am currently involved in a Hackney-wide scheme tutoring students in GCSE mathematics for local secondary schools. Last year I set up a scheme in my college to assist GCSE students studying mathematics which was very successful and very popular.

I have tutored in mathematics, English and science for a year and also in A level mathematics. I specialise in the core modules at A level but can teach other modules as well. I have been described as a 'natural teacher' and my talents lie in reducing seemingly complex topics and explaining them in simple terms. I will use any example to demonstrate a point!
I have received certificates in mathematics from my college which demonstrate my ability and I am the only candidate in my college for Additional further mathematics and for Mathematics at Oxford University.
I love children and working with children and I was also a peer mentor and further education ambassador, working with young people and encouraging them to consider further education. I am CRB checked and can provide references from teachers and tutors to support my character.

Profile 2: JANEK WHITAKER

I am currently a first year Mathematics and Physics Student at king's college london. I left my college as the Highest achieving A level student in 2007. I studied Mathematics to A level and further Mathematics to AS level and also Physics which is a heavily numerate subject. I gained 13 A*-C grades at gcse, most of which I took a year early, becoming the highest scoring gcse student in my year in 2005.
I believe firmly that success at secondary school level is the vital in these ever more competitive times. I have tutored the core gcse subjects for over a year but can teach a wide range of modules at secondary level.

I aspire to becoming a full time teacher at the end of my degree and so I am passionate about transferring the skills and knowledge needed to enjoy academic success to those in secondary schools. While at college I was involved in a number of peer teaching projects transferring skills to younger pupils.
I engage well with children and I am passionate about mathematics but also about teaching. I love teaching both core mathematics and Mechanics at A level and I acheved very high grades in these modules at college. I have taught all levels from primary to secondary to college. I am fully CRB checked.
